Parliament buildings 州議事堂

October 18, 2010

In a city of stunning architecture, the Parliament building that sit on the banks of the Danube are at the top of the scale as far as I’m concerned.  It was modeled after England’s houses of parliament at Westminster and is apparently the largest parliament building in Europe but I’m not sure I believe that claim after seeing the Palace of Westminster in London.  Regardless of the claim, with almost 700 rooms and more than a dozen miles of corridor, it’s a damn big building.  It’s also one of the two tallest buildings in Budapest, though that’s really not saying much as Budapest is a really flat city building-wise.

The houses of parliament were inaugurated in 1896 to mark the 1000th anniversary of Hungary as a nation.  It was completed in 1904 though sadly, the architect, Imre Steindl went blind before it was completed so never saw the final result.

州議事堂は1896に開設されました。その年はハンガリの1000年の記念日です。州議事堂は1904に完成建設工事しました。残念事は設計者イムレ ステインダルが完成前に失明されました。それで見なかったです。
