HK sevens 香港セバンズ

March 30, 2010

This past weekend was the Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament.  It is one of the most difficult tickets to get in Hong Kong but I was lucky enough to know a guy who knows a guy who got me a last-minute ticket to Saturday’s party.  Party?  Yep, the Sevens are essentially a party with a little bit of 7-on-7 rugby thrown in just to make it seem legitimate.  Much of it is actually good family fun.  Folks get dressed up in costume and cheer on their country of choice.  Where the rugby is pretty much an afterthought is in the south stands.  If you decide to head there, be in costume and be prepared to be doused in beer at some point near the end of the day.

Oh yeah, there was some rugby going on too.  Of the matches that interested me, Canada narrowly beat China but then got trounced by Australia (much to the delight of the Australian in our group) and Japan got pummeled by England in their first match but went on to devastate Hong Kong.

It was great fun among the atmosphere and the matches, right? Will definitely go next year again! Anyway, have a nice trip to Nihon! Ma ta ne!
