Day Three 三日目

September 2, 2007

Last day of the official tour days. I still have three days to wander around on my own but on this morning, we travelled out to Tonle Sap lake to go through the floating village of Chong Kneas. It’s a bit on the “touristy” side but still pretty interesting. More interesting would have been the flooded forest of Kompong Phhluk and its stilt village. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to get to and takes about 6 hours one way. Perhaps next time.

Chong Kneas was still interesting to visit, especially to see the way they move the houses depending on the water level of the lake. During the dry season, Tonle Sap shrinks to approximately 25% of its wet season size. That requires the villagers to move their houses both floating and stilt style, about 10 km during the year in order to stay with the water!

After lunch, we managed to return to Ta Prohm. It started raining again and I was beginning to think that I wasn’t meant to visit that temple but this was only a sprinkle that lasted about 10 minutes. So interesting to see how the trees have overtaken and grown into the rock of the temple.

That night, having been inspired by the “Tomb Raider Temple”, I headed into town for dinner and ended up at the Red Piano. They advertise “Angelina Jolie was here before you”. Ah, my brief brush with stardom.
