Happy Canada Day!
Well, it’s a day late here but right on time for all those in Canada: Happy Canada Day!!
There was even a Canada Day celebration here hosted by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. It was called “Canada D’eh”. Cute, no? It was actually held on June 30th but at midnight, when it officially became July 1st, there was a rousing rendition of “Oh, Canada”. It was pissing rain but no one seemed to care.
July 1st was also the 10th anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong to China. There were all sorts of activities and dignitaries but that was all early in the day. I didn’t get downtown until the afternoon for the “March for Democracy”. They had anticipated around 60,000 people to show up. Not really sure if that number was accurate but there were definitely a lot of people in the march.
