Oh, how to begin?
February 17th to the 20th is Chinese new year, or Lunar new year if you want to be more accurate. This is the time of year where people head off to home towns to visit with family and basically make travelling anywhere an absolute nightmare. I had hoped to head off possibly to Taiwan or maybe Mainland China for a few days but decided against it when I noticed that travel costs doubled and basically everyone and their dog was heading to and from somewhere as well. The pictures of lineups to buy train tickets was enough to dissuade me from any travel in the Mainland.
Instead, I’ll do what I keep saying I’ll do and that is to actually explore various areas around Hong Kong. Though I do plan on a day trip into Macau since it’s only about a one to one-and-a-half ferry ride away.
There are going to be quite a number of events for Lunar new year including fireworks, people visiting shrines, and lion dances (similar to the attached picture). Hopefully after the holidays I’ll have more images to post for everyone to see. (I actually get two weeks off, not just the official 4 days. This being a teacher thing does have its benefits).
